SERVICES & SACRAMENTS

St. Augustine’s Kilburn is an inclusive church committed to Christ and His word. We are dedicated to sharing the love of Christ through ministry, fellowship and worship. BAPTISM

Holy Baptism (Christening) is the sacrament which welcomes a person into the fellowship of the Church, making them a member of God’s family and a part of the body of Christ.

Baptisms are conducted within the parish in which the one to be baptised lives, unless they attend worship in another parish. Baptisms may take place within the Solemn Mass on Sundays or at other times (in emergencies - immediately). Either way, the one to be baptised is always welcomed into the Parish Family. Parents (or adults seeking baptism for themselves) should contact Fr Amos. Information will then be sent that will answer more questions and introduce you to our baptism preparation sessions. A separate information sheet is provided for godparents and an application form. Dates are only agreed once that application form is returned - so please do not book a reception venue before booking the baptism.

WEDDINGS

The Christian understanding of the sacrament of Marriage is when two people become one flesh and commit themselves to mutual love and care for their whole lives, under God’s blessing and guidance.

We are delighted to welcome and assist you in celebrating one of the most important days of your life in a cathedral-like setting, where tradition and a personal touch makes it a day for everyone to enjoy and remember.

Marriage Law; The 2008 Church of England Marriage Measure extended the right to be married in churches beyond the previous conditions of residence in the parish or membership of the electoral roll. In addition to these you have an entitlement to be married at St Augustine’s if you fulfil one of the following ‘qualifying connections’:

  • You have been previously resident in the parish at any time for at least six months;

  • You have habitually attended public worship at Church of England services in the parish for at least six months;

  • You were baptised or confirmed in the parish by a Church of England form of service;

  • A parent or grandparent was married in the parish;

  • A parent has been resident in the parish for at least six months during your lifetime;

  • A parent has habitually attended public worship at Church of England services in the parish for at least six months during your lifetime.

FUNERALS

When someone we love dies we are beset with many powerful feelings. The Funeral Service seeks to minister to this delicate situation by committing the departed person into God's hands, using the Church's liturgy of either a Funeral Service or a Requiem Mass to express our emotions within an atmosphere of faith, hope and love. It is possible to tailor the service for the individual, within appropriate limits. Additionally, the great advantage of a Funeral in church is that it is not restricted to a mere 20 minute service at a crematorium.

Please contact Fr. Amos if you would like practical or spiritual advice when bereaved or to arrange your own funeral - families find this incredibly helpful when the time comes.
